Effective October 1st 2010, the inclusive Travel Health Plan included on Platinum, Gold and Gold Global Payment MasterCard accounts will be transitioned from Saskatchewan Blue Cross to Allianz Global Risks US Insurance Company (Canadian Branch), and administered through Mondial Assistance (Canada).  Coverage for cardholders will be uninterrupted, and cardholders will benefit from enhancements made to the plan.

Enhancements include:

Age Limits

  • Coverage under this Certificate of Insurance is now available to eligible insureds under the age of 75 at time of card activation or on the annual renewal date

Emergency Medical Benefits and Exclusions

  • The benefit maximum for Emergency Medical coverage has been increased to $2,000,000 CAD.

Dental Accident - Accidental Blow to the Face

  • Overall benefit includes necessary treatment for a dental accident due to an accidental blow to the face while on a trip.  You are also covered up to a maximum benefit of $1,000 CAD to continue necessary treatment within (3) months after the incident (including x-rays and lab fees) after your return to Canada.

Bedside Visits

  • If hospitalized more than three (3) consecutive days while travelling alone, this benefit provides coverage for a round trip economy for a family member or close personal friend to join you at your bedside while hospitalized.  Coverage is also provided for that person's reasonable accomodations, taxi fares and meals up to $150 CAD per day per account to a maximum of ten (10) days.

Return and Escort of Dependent Children

  • If an insured person is hospitalized more than 24 hours or must return to Canada due to their emergency medical condition, this benefit provides for the extra cost of a one-way economy airfare on a commercial flight via the most cost effective route to return the dependent children to their departure point.  A round trip economy airfare for an escort to accompany the dependent child is also provided, if required by the airline.

Automatic Extension of Coverage

  • If your return trip is delayed, during your coverage period, due to the hospitalization as an inpatient or medical condition of an insured person, your coverage will be automatically extended to the earliest of:  (1) your return to your province or territory of residence or return destination based on your travel itinerary or (2) for up to five days after your scheduled return date; however, if you are hospitalized as an impatient, if medically necessary, coverage will be automatically extended for 72 hours from the time of discharge.  Under no circumstances will coverage be extended for more than 3 months from your scheduled return date.

Pre-Existing Conditions Exclusions

The following modified pre-existing condition wording applies to all pre-existing conditions:

  • Pre-existing medical conditions for customers age 64 and younger must be stable for six months prior to your date of departure
  • Pre-existing medical conditions for customers age 64-74 must be stable for one year prior to your date of departure.
